Medicaid:

The Medicaid Program provides medical benefits to low-income people, who may have no medical insurance or inadequate medical insurance. It pays for many medical services (for income eligible seniors, blind adults or adults with disabilities, and families with children) such as doctor visits, prescription drugs, inpatient and outpatient hospital care, laboratory services, home health care, nursing home care, transportation necessary to receive medical care and various other services.  

Husky Plan

The Husky Plan is designed to help all children who do not have health insurance. It includes services under the traditional Medicaid program (now known as HUSKY Part A) and it also provides other health services for children in higher-income families (called HUSKY Part B.) 

Medicare:

People turning 65 and adults who have been on social security disability for 24 months are eligible for Medicare, the federal health insurance program. Our CHOICES volunteer is available once a month to help with applications and insurance questions. This volunteer assists with evaluating people's Medicare Prescription coverage each fall as well.

The Medicare Rights Center is a national, nonprofit consumer service organization that works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs and public policy initiatives. Choices:

This is a state program with trained volunteers who help people with Medicare questions and some Medicare problems. Canton's volunteer is at the senior center once a month and sees people by appointment only. You can reach CHOICES at 800.994.9422.  You can meet with the CHOICES volunteer at the Senior Center. Call 860.693.5811 for an appointment.

Canton Eye Care Program:

The Town of Canton, in collaboration and with the support of the Canton Lions Club and Bonelli Eye Care has established a COMMUNITY EYE CARE PROGRAM to promote eye health and wellness for Canton residents. Canton Residents who lack vision coverage through insurance, or who otherwise would not be able to afford co-pays or new glasses, contacts, or an exam, and who are in need, should contact Canton Senior & Social Services at 860.693.5811 for an appointment to qualify and get a referral for an appointment with Bonelli Eye Care.
