Medicaid:

The Medicaid Program provides free or low cost health coverage to eligible needy persons including children, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.  

HUSKY Health offers coverage to eligible children, parents, relative caregivers, older adults, individuals with disabilities, adults without dependent children, and pregnant women.The Husky Plan is designed to help all children who do not have health insurance. It includes services under the traditional Medicaid program (now known as HUSKY Part A) and it also provides other health services for children in higher-income families (called HUSKY Part B.) If you are interested in applying for HUSKY Health, please call 1-877-CT-HUSKY (1-877-284.8759).

Medicare:

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities,and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant. sometimes called ESRD). People turning 65 and adults who have been on social security disability for 24 months are also eligible for Medicare. The Medicare Rights Center is a national, nonprofit consumer service organization that works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs, and public policy initiatives. Through their national telephone helpline (1-800-333-4114), they provide direct assistance to older adults and people with disabilities, as well as their friends, families and caregivers.

Choices: 

The CT CHOICES program provides free and confidential counseling and assistance  to older persons and persons with disabilities. CHOICES is an excellent resource for individuals who are new to Medicare, such as individuals about to turn 65 years old or who are eligible for Medicare because of a qualifying illness or disability. You can reach CHOICES at 800.994.9422 to speak to a counselor in your area, or you may click on the link below for additional information.
