YOUR SILENT NEIGHBORS, Alice M. Waddy, Nurse

Born and schooled in Collinsville, Alice Waddy (1914-1996) served as a nurse in the office of Dr. Edward Diters for many years until her retirement in 1976.  Her father was a roller for the Collins Company.

Devoted to her brother, Percy, they were inseparable companions until his death in 1992.  They lived together for many years at 157 Main Street, at the top of the hill.  The house was at first owned by the Collins Company, and eventually sold to them.  Percy, a bookkeeper and paymaster for Collins, was one of a succession of employees who lived in the building, once a schoolhouse near the dam.

Late in life Waddy moved to 81 Dowd Avenue.  She died at the McLean Home in Simsbury.

Alice was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and her funeral was held at the Vincent Funeral Home with Reverend Richard J. Simeone officiating.

Alice M. Waddy is buried in Dyer Cemetery, Canton, near her brother and not far from Dr. Diters
