Dear Residents,
I am writing to inform you that, as a result of my election to serve as State Representative for the 17th District, I have submitted my resignation as Canton’s First Selectman, effective November 16, 2018. As I indicated during my campaign, it was always my intention that if elected, I would not continue as First Selectman. I believe I can best serve my constituents in the 17th District by focusing solely on that position, and not try to split my time between two roles. Deputy First Selectman Beth Kandrysawtz will serve as acting First Selectman until the Board appoints a new First Selectman at their November 28th meeting. The new First Selectman will serve out the remainder of my term, until November, 2019. This timing will enable a full board to be seated prior to the first of the year and the start of the new town budget.
It has been the highest honor and privilege of my professional life to serve the residents of Canton as First Selectman. I am grateful to the many of you who have reached out to me over the last three years to discuss your thoughts or concerns, and I look forward to continuing to work for you in my new role. I am indebted to the town staff for their constant professionalism and dedication to making Canton a great community in which to live and work.
Thank you for making these three years so enjoyable and memorable. I wish you all a holiday season filled with good health and much happiness.
Warmest regards,
Leslee Hill
