On this site stood a large, three story wood frame commercial building known as “The Beehive” because it hummed with business activity. It was a hodgepodge of stores and included dry goods merchants, groceries, dental offices, and tailor and barber shops. From this location in the mid 1850s, Sam Collins tried evicting Bradford Marcy for violating a deed condition prohibiting the sale of liquor. The case went to the Connecticut Supreme Court and Collins lost.
