Sept 14 - Witness the Wonders of Bird Migration: Raptor Demo and Bird Watch

Roaring Brook Nature Center and the Canton Land Conservation Trust will sponsor a migration/raptor event featuring live birds of prey from Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education of Ashford on Sat. Sept. 14 at the Nature Center, 70 Gracey Rd., Canton.

Join Nature Center staff in the fields of Werner’s Woods from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to watch for migrant raptors and other animals at the height of the fall migration. 

At 2:30 p.m., Mary-Beth Kaeser of Horizon Wings will present a 45-minute raptor program in the Center’s auditorium featuring falcons, owls and eagles. 

The program is free to Land Trust and Nature Center members. Admission to others is $6 for children and $8 for adults. For additional information call the Nature Center at 860.693.0263.

Sept 15 Canton Land Trust Hike Looks at History of Barbour Woods

Join the Canton Land Conservation Trust on Sun. Sept. 15 for a 1:30 p.m. hike focusing on the history of Barbour Woods.

The hike will begin at Capen Cabin. Land Trust Director Nate Cantwell will lead hikers on the old Taylor Road and into the woods for this approximately two-hour hike. The hike will be fairly easy, except for a more difficult last section.

Directions: Take Barbourtown Road north to Breezy Hill Road. Bear left onto Breezy Hill Road. Proceed to the top of the hill where the pavement ends, park along the road and make your way up the hill. Directions are also on the Land Trust website.
