8/25/2015 - Info on the Emerald Ash Borer and the Asian Longhorned Beetle
Learn more about two invasive insects that threaten the health of our forests and neighborhood trees:
the Emerald Ash Borer and the Asian Longhorned Beetle
The Asian Longhorned Beetle has yet to appear in Connecticut; however, an infestation in nearby Worcester, MA required the removal and double chipping of 30,000 trees. This beetle prefers to infest maples but will consider infesting most hardwood trees.
The Emerald Ash Borer was found in western Connecticut in 2012 and continues to spread eastward throughout state. The infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer is limited to ash trees.
